Established in 2006, these regular events have become a popular and well-established part of the social calendar, providing students with a chance to enjoy and share a range of creative writing.
Students and staff come together in an informal and supportive atmosphere to read, listen and have a chat and a drink. Some read their original poems or stories; others read the work of a favourite author; others simply enjoy listening. As well as showcasing a fantastic range of literature, these are always great social events.
In addition to readings, there is always an impromptu poetry competition (themes this year have included ‘squirrels’ and ‘underwear’!) and prizes for the best performers of the evening. In the cosy environment of the Vicarage lecture theatre, these evenings exemplify the friendliness and sense of community that makes the Department of English so special.
